MY STORY

Necessity (Really) is the
Mother of Invention

Sarah A. Webster

Hi! My name is Sarah Webster, and I’m the inventor of My Brush Betty’s premium makeup brush cleaning kit and line of products.

Like many inventions, this one happened sort of by accident. But as the old saying goes: Necessity is the mother of invention.

Back in 2005, I was a busy newspaper reporter for the Detroit Free Press, and sometimes I appeared on local and national TV for interviews. Nothing makes you more self-conscious than watching yourself on the air!

Like many women, I am prone to acne, so I needed to keep my collection of makeup brushes clean in order to prevent a breakout. But I was way too busy to wash them. One. At. A. Time.

One hectic day, I simply dropped a handful of brushes into a sports drink bottle with warm water and a dab of dish soap, and I shook them clean. It was so fast, easy and effective!

Eventually, I figured out how to stop the brushes from smashing into the bottom of the bottle and getting damaged — by gluing the bristles of a hair brush to the interior bottom of the container.

I cleaned my brushes this way for nearly a decade before finally deciding to bring this idea to market.

Based on my experience, I’ve worked to perfect this highly effective method of cleaning brushes –  to make it as fast, easy, and safe as possible for all types of brushes.

I’ve had a ton of fun developing My Brush Betty. I hope you’ll give it a try and let me know what you think!

This much I promise: Shake-cleaning makeup brushes in My Brush Betty is the most fun you’ll ever have cleaning your makeup brushes.

You can read about how I created My Brush Betty on my blog or connect with me on on LinkedIn or Twitter.

Happy Shaking!
